Good news for open source: The Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities or CRUE , an association of 74 public and private universities, had agreed in a meeting that universities will promote open source software to be placed “in a reference position in the field of new technologies.”

The motion is important since the end of the university get a good block users using free software can help

stand up to some agreements that impose limitations as the Spanish government with Microsoft, that induces users to use programs closed.

The benefits that may result from this agreement passed by the possibility of

to implement programs in minority languages (thanks to users who are encouraged to translate the application, because they have no barriers for doing so), to generally apply knowledge of the university to the continued development of such programs.
