The HTPC BBBPS the Granullion

A few weeks ago that we are testing a new store in the HTPC configuration. And now after having twisted a bit, as we are able to teach it.

– Expandable: we can choose the ram from 1 gig, up to four gigabytes. The hard disk drive enters our 2.5 “or a 3.5″ to 2 teras. The rewritable DVD or Blu-Ray reader can be installed or not. The wireless network can also choose to mount or not. In the same way is an optional USB TV tuner or remote control. So we can get the system only with what we need.

– The operating system is also selectable. With Windows 7 or any version of Linux. With Linux and MythTV or XBMC performance is excellent, I would say better than Windows.

Read The old guard of John Scalzi

A few weeks ago that referred to had finished reading “Troops space” of Heinlein. I got an email from a dear reader of the blog, where I spoke of the “old guard” a work which had a plot that somehow resembled the work of Heinlein, but modernized.

So I’m curious, I read the work of John Scalzi. The story line may be somewhat similar to Heinlein, but with new elements and curious. The novel reads well. Part of a curious idea. To assemble the space army, rather than recruit and train young people are looking for volunteers over 75 years. Once you have entered the army, they are rejuvenated and thus takes his training and experience, with the force of a body of someone younger. From that idea, it traces the story of a 75-year old man who volunteered. We attended his rejuvenation, he passed through the camp of instruction, knowledge of their weapons, their first battle, killed his first friends … and so on until the final battle which saved the human race. Well written, better than any of the modern science fiction I’ve read. We read in one sitting. There are several references to classical works and it shows significantly influenced by Heinlein.

The author has followed the plot and has two more novels. Right now I’m with the second, I almost like it better than the first. And of course again is giving me ideas to implement these texts of science fiction to someone from a company learns something about managing people, but that’s for another entry.

A new version of the store
