Microsoft has fixed a critical bug in Windows seven years after it was discovered.

It took seven and a half years since it was discovered the problem until Microsoft settled it. The security problem is in the service Server Message Block (SMB), which Windows uses to share documents and print across a network.

Microsoft confirmed the public tools such as Metasploit, which can be used to generate an attack.

It's very rare that Microsoft has taken so long to solve the problem. Ben Greenbaum, Symantec said definitively "this is out of the ordinary" and that Microsoft does not understand why it took so long.
